As for the link colors, define link colors for #leftnav something like the example below:

color: #666666;
background : inherit;
text-decoration: none;
}

#leftnav a:hover {
color: #0000ff;
background : inherit;
text-decoration: underline;
}

This is just an example, you need to change the colors.
